Happiness Habits

It goes without saying that each of us has a desire to have a happy and fulfilling life. But most of us need to realize that happiness will not come without effort. Moreover, those recovering from substance abuse may find it even harder to be happy — given that their experiences in addiction may contribute heavily towards stress and depression.

No one ever said that finding happiness is easy. The road to acquiring it can be pretty bumpy. But that’s okay, happiness is worth the fight. First of all, to be happy comes as a choice. Any choice includes performing actions and acquiring habits in order to make it work. The results may not come instantly but it is definitely worth the wait.

Habits that can turn your life 180 degrees around:

1. Positive Morning Set-up

What you right after you wake up in the morning usually sets the tone for the rest of the day. Creating a habit of morning positivity is the first and the most important step towards healthy habits for the future.

“Meditate, do yoga, write a list of everything you love, watch inspirational YouTube videos, or listen to your favorite song before leaving the house. Simply, set yourself up for a great day!” ~ Maria Stenvinkel

2. Make Your Dreams Come True

Dreaming about the things you want in life is good because if we can visualize it then we can achieve it. Dreams make our heart beat faster and show us what to live for. Dreaming big is important, but a vital part is to take small consistent steps towards making your dreams come true. Make it one of your habits and you will never regret it!

“Dreams and dedication are a powerful combination.” ~ William Longgood

3. Relationships Matter

Another meaningful habit for acquiring happiness is the formation of strong and supportive relationships with your family, friends and co-workers. Nowadays, with an app for everything, face-to-face communication poses a challenge for many. It can also be a challenge to find a supportive circle of people with similar interests, like sports or photography. But it is definitely possible. And once you find them, they will provide an essential support network for you. So, if you manage to fit in, cherish it and the people who care about you.

4. Sound Mind in a Sound Body

There are endless benefits to regular exercise. A study published in 2013 by Harvard Health Publishing showed that workouts can act as an antidepressant. Moreover, it has been proven that addiction treatment are longer-lasting when it includes physical activity.

“Time and health are two precious assets that we don't recognize and appreciate until they have been depleted.” ~ Denis Waitley

5. Let It Go

Letting go isn’t easy but it seems to be the only way something better can enter your life. Letting go of something that tears us apart inside allows you to have peace of mind and feel closer to those around you. A habit of letting go works wonders in terms of bringing new, positive emotions and changes into your life.

“Holding on is believing that there’s a past; letting go is knowing that there’s a future.” ~ Daphne Rose Kingma

6. Practice Forgiveness

Make a habit of forgiving people, even for the smallest of things. It will boost your self-confidence and give you a feeling of worthiness. Sometimes people around you are not in control of events or emotions; sometimes they can be late or rude, but it is worth forgiving and giving a second chance. Moreover, they might be going through hard times and need help. Being more attentive and forgiving towards people can bring many amazing things and emotions into your life.

“Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.” ~ Martin Luther King, Jr.
